Last Thursday, 27 July, Peru celebrated the 196th Anniversary as a free and independent country. The celebration, hosted at the residence of the Ambassador of Peru to the Netherlands, was attended by a significative number of Dutch authorities, members of the diplomatic corps and international organizations, businessmen and academics, among others.
In his welcome speech, Ambassador Herrera summarized the relationship between the Netherlands and Peru in last year. In this occasion, he thanked the Government and the People of the Netherlands for their support in the efforts for the reconstruction of our country after the floods caused by the “El Niño” phenomenon earlier this year. He also mentioned different events organized by the Embassy of Peru, in the past year, including two major gastronomic events such as “Peruvian Chilies” and the first “Peruvian Food Festival”. Likewise, he highlighted the inauguration of the Sculpture “Embryo” - from the renowned Peruvian contemporary artist Iliana Scheggia - in the context of the celebrations for the twenty years of the twinning between the Dutch city of Amstelveen and the Peruvian district of Villa El Salvador (read the full speech here).
The attendees had the opportunity to enjoy the world-renowned Peruvian cuisine at a buffet served at the reception and could taste a variety of cocktails based on Pisco offered by the Bottle Business Company.
