ARRIVAL OF THE PERUVIAN NAVY SHIP (B.A.P) UNION TO THE PORT OF ROTTERDAM
In the framework of the Training Voyage programmed for the current year, (VIEX-2017) the B.A.P. “Unión” will arrive in the port of Rotterdam next Tuesday August 8th, and will dock in the Wilelmina Pier, Holland Amerika kade until Saturday 12th of the same month, period in which it will perform a number of protocolary and social activities, and promote an outreach to the Dutch and Peruvian communities living in the Netherlands.
The B.A.P. “Unión” is considered part of the Peruvian territory, at sea and abroad. It is constituted as an itinerant Embassy of Peru, being a distinctive symbol of our national and maritime power in the fields of diplomacy, culture, trade and military, with the purpose of contributing to the Foreign Policy of the Peruvian State in every port it docks. It also serves as a platform to strengthen the training process of our Naval Cadets.
Built entirely in Peru, in the Navy Industrial Service (SIMA), the B.A.P. Unión is the achievement of a great national aspiration.
The B.A.P. “Unión”, which was incorporated on January 26th, 2016 to our naval fleet, is the biggest
of its type in Latin America and the second in the world. It is a four-masted Sailing ship with rigging of a barque type, it has a length of 115,5m, a width of 13,5m, depth of 6,5m, air draft of 53,5m a displacement of 3,200 tons, power of 1825kw, speed of 12 knots and capacity for 250 crewmembers.
It is worth to note that the Training ship B.A.P. Unión is representing Peru in the best way, winning last June 19th a Sail Ship crew parade in the “A” category of Tall ships in the important event “Sail Boston 2017” in the United States. Also, on June 22nd it became the winner in its category in the biggest international encounter of Tall Ships of Canada, “Rendez-Vous 2017 Tall Ships Regatta”, which took place in the framework of the celebrations for the 150th anniversary of the Canadian Confederation, it obtained the first place in the general ranking and its category, and was considered the fastest Sailing ship of the competition, having travelled 450 miles in 43 hours of sailing.
The B.A.P. “Unión” will visit Europe for the first time in its second Training Voyage abroad and will arrive in Rotterdam on August 8th, between 8am and 9am, day in which the maneuvering activities can be appreciated. The general public will be able to visit the ship on August 9th and 10th between 10 and 18 hours. You can find the ship with the maps below.
