Exhibition about the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega in the City of Utrecht
Last June 18th in the Cervantes Institute of Utrecht, the cultural event “Día del Verano en Español” took place, which counted with the participation of many Embassies accredited to the Netherlands.
The Embassy of Peru in this framework organized the conference ““El Inca Garcilaso de la Vega: Cuatrocientos años de lecturas de los Comentarios Reales” (“The Inca Garcilaso de la Vega: Four Hundred Years of Reading of the Royal Commentaries”) by the Peruvian Historian Sonia Rose, Professor of Cultural History of Latin America from the University of Toulouse Jean Jaurés, in honor of the fourth centenary of the passing of this important person.
Mrs. Sonia Rose talked about the life and works of the Inca Garcilaso, considered as the first racial and cultural “mestizo”, who was the first to reconcile in his works both of his cultural heritages: the European (Spanish and Italian) and the indigenous of the Americas.
At the end of the conference the Ambassador of Peru inaugurated the exhibition “El Inca Garcilaso y el Nacimiento de la Cultura Mestiza de América” (El Inca Garcilaso and the birth of the mestizo culture of the Americas), in the exhibitions room of the Cervantes Institute, which will continue on display until July 15th 2016. He also Presented 3 tomes of the Complete Works of the Inca Garcilaso de la Vega for the Library of said Institute.
