Vice-Chancellors of Peru and the Netherlands Agree to Strengthen the Bilateral Relations Between bot

The Vice-Minister of Foreign Affairs of Peru, Ambassador Eduardo Martinetti and the Vice-Chancellor of the Netherlands, Wim Geerts, held yesterday a working session in the framework of the III Meeting of the Mechanism of Political Consultations between Peru and the Netherlands, in which they talked about subjects of interest of the bilateral agenda and agreed to strengthen bilateral relations and elevate them to a superior level.

During the meeting, the Vice-Ministers Martinetti and Geerts explored the significant existing potential in Trade and Investment, especially in the area of infrastructure development. They also evaluated the perspectives of an increased co-operation in logistical and seaport matters, as well as collaboration in matters related to the fight against organized crime and the National Peruvian Strategy against Drugs. The Peruvian Vice-Minister also expressed its acknowledgement for the support of the Netherlands for the entrance of Peru to the OECD Country Program and to the process of exemption of the Schengen Visa.

Both Vice-Chancellors agreed in collaborating for the facilitation of the entrance of the so named “New Foods” such as camu camu, sacha inchi, cañihua and huito, among others, which are object of Non-Tariff Barriers by the European Union. Both Peru and the Netherlands have a mutual commercial interest in developing the placement of these products derived from biodiversity in the European market. They also analyzed the willingness of the Netherlands in cooperating with the Cyber-Security Strategy of Peru, as well as improving the training of Peruvian public officers for the identification of fraudulent documents.

The visit of Vice-chancellor Wim Geerts is made in the framework of this authority’s tour of South America that also includes Brazil and Colombia. It is worth mentioning that both Peru and the Netherlands aspire to coincide as non-permanent members of the Security Council of the United Nations in the year 2018. The last meeting of this mechanism of consultations was done in the city of The Hague in 2009.

At the end of the meeting the Peruvian Ministry offered a lunch in honor of the visitor in the Torre Tagle Palace, in which they discussed subjects of regional and global importance, finding many points of agreement in the fight against international terrorism and the promotion of democracy.
