Visit of Peruvian writer Santiago Roncagliolo
From October 6 to 9, the Netherlands received a visit from renowned Peruvian writer and journalist Santiago Roncagliolo. During his visit he participated in various activities with the aim of promoting his new book "The maximum penalty", which has recently been translated into Dutch.
The Embassy of Peru organized a lecture at the Peruvian residence with the presence of the diplomatic corps, academics, press and people associated with literature in the Netherlands. In a relaxed atmosphere Santiago Roncagliolo talked about his novel that is set in the intense political period that was the seventies in Latin America, particularly the dictatorship period of General Videla and the World Cup in Argentina of 1978. In this manner he was able to discuss his recognized literary work and answer questions from those present.
Other activities in this country included his participation in the event "Conversations with Santiago Roncagliolo" which took place at the Cervantes Institute in Utrecht with the known Dutch literary critic and translator Dr. Maarten Steenmeijer and a lecture for literature students at the University of Nijmegen.
Santiago Roncagliolo is a Peruvian writer, play writer, journalist and translator living in Barcelona. He was the youngest winner of the Premio Alfaguara de Novela for "red April" in 2006. For years, he has written a column for the Spanish newspaper "El País Semanal".
