The ancient citadel of Machu Picchu, located in Cusco, was recently voted as the top destination to visit before you die in an online poll created by American news website The Huffington Post, and now Peru has been listed among the best trips for 2012 by the editors at National Geographic Traveler magazine.

Lima, Dec. 01 (ANDINA). The Incan citadel of Machu Picchu, in Peru’s south Andean department of Cusco, was voted on Thursday as the top destination to visit before dying, in an online poll created by American news website The Huffington Post.The Incan legacy received the support of the readers of said website, which selected 16 candidates from the "1000 Places To See Before You Die", a 2003 travel book written by Patricia Schultz.
